Police: Traffic stop leads to methamphetamine inside a body cavity; two arrested in West Pittston

West Pittston, PA

On May 17, 2020 West Pittston Police Department say they were monitoring traffic on the corner of Wyoming Avenue and Montgomery Avenue when officers observed a motor vehicle with a defective muffler and an expired registration at which time they conducted a traffic stop for the violations.

Officers say  learned through the course of the investigation of the two people in the car, Mary Biedka and Joseph White,  that White had an active arrest warrant out of Carbondale for dangerous drugs and was arrested. Accoding to police they were given the false name of Katherine Cole by Biedka. Police say they discovered a burnt used methamphetamine pipe within the vehicle.

Authorities say they learned Biedka’s true identity and officers conducted a search of the vehicle where they located marijuana cigarettes and other items used to ingest narcotics subsequent to arrest. Officers, also, allege they were informed during the investigation that Biedka had hidden methamphetamine inside a body cavity.

Biedka was transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital due to the potential health risks that are associated with hiding methamphetamine inside one’s body cavity. At the hospital, along with a bag of methamphetamine, a folding knife was also discovered near her body cavity police say. After further examination a medical screen showed a glass vial was still lodged in said body cavity. Medical staff removed the glass vial and the vial contained more suspected methamphetamine that was hidden by Biedka.

Biedka was taken and arraigned by Magistrate O’Donnell where she was remanded to Luzerne County Correctional Facility for in lieu $15,000 bail.

White was remanded to the correctional facility on the active arrest warrant and will be arraigned at a later time.
