On 5/26/2020 The Scranton Police Special Investigations Division say it completed an investigation into illegal drug sales at 914 Prospect Ave in the City of Scranton. The investigation began after multiple citizen complaints were received about drugs being sold at the residence. SID Officers, with assistance from K9 Officer Scott Stelmak and Officer Don Hofsommer, arrested Joendy Santiago Luciano, 39 and Jonathan Acevedo-Smith, 32.
Both were arrested for selling heroin at 914 Prospect Ave where authorities say they’d been living for some time.
Over the course of the investigation police say they made several arrests for drugs tied to that apartment. Intelligence was developed which led to SID officers securing a search warrant for the apartment. SID executed the search warrant at 10:30 am on Tuesday.
Luciano was taken into custody without incident, however Acevedo-Smith fled and attempted to evade officers on a bicycle, leading police on a chase. Acevedo-Smith was seen throwing objects as he fled, which were collected and identified as approximately 20 bags of heroin. Police say K9 Officer Stelmak observed Acevedo-Smith climb into the bed of a pickup truck to hide and he along with SID officers were able to take the suspect into custody.
At the apartment police say they located a digital scale, paraphernalia and hundreds of the small glassine baggies used to package and distribute heroin, yet to be filled. Authorities say they seized over $4200 in cash and approximately 20 grams of heroin, with a street value of about $2000.
