Opinion: If Casey and Toomey want to fix an s-hole country, let them go to hop the next plane to Damascus
Pennsylvania's two senators both oppose the President's plan to shift American troops out of one part of Syria creating space for Turkey to invade. Casey goes so far as to insult the intelligence of Pennsylvanians saying, "President Trump’s decision to pull U.S....
Every school-day thousands of African American students in Michigan’s worst school district, Detroit, trek to wealthy suburban schools. Michigan calls it, “Schools of Choice.”
Parents send their kids to any traditional public school they choose which must accept them. In Harrisburg, a district with more than 60% African American students, no choice exists, none.
Pennsylvania’s Auditor General asks parents in one of Pennsylvania’s worst schools districts for patience as Harrisburg robs our kids of the American Dream. Eugene A. DePasquale points to a four-year process in Reading as a “success.”
In Reading, the screwball money problems are gone. DePasquale fails to mention the district bombs out academically. 28% of kids are reading proficient; in math just 15% the grade. In Harrisburg 25% of students read proficiently and, like, Reading just 15% know their math.
DePasquale dreams big if he thinks Harrisburg turns around more than 20 years of state intervention in even four years.
Detroit Schools once boasted over 100,000 students; today it’s just over 51,000. Thousands of students pass the district’s boundaries each school-day for better traditional suburban public schools and charter schools in the city.
Why wait, Eugene?
DePasquale scams parents with promises as he campaigns for Congress. Not his problem if he wins. Parents pay the rent that pays the taxes that funds the miserable Harrisburg School District. Let them take their money elsewhere if they choose.
The problem is DePasquale won’t advocate for real solutions. He asks people to wait as their children suffer.
